The Optimist Daughter

I would say this novel is rather dark in its presentation. With a father going through an operation, a 'lunatic' stepmother and then the father passed away. The drama started and only God knows what was in the stepmother's mind! One would prefer to just listen and do what he or she has to do than to go against the stepmother. This novel had won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1972.

It is a slow reading but worth the time as the story unfolds towards the end of the novel. Likewise, nobody likes to hear about the truth and indeed truth hurts!

So, is it better not to know or go all out to know about something?
